Elm is a Warwickshire Resource Provision based within Abbey CofE Infant School which allows children to attend mainstream school, whilst accessing specialist provision. Elm meets the needs of children with communication and interaction (C&I) needs including autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). Placement in this setting is agreed by the Local Authority Provision Panel.
Abbey Infant School is a fully inclusive school committed to giving every child the best opportunities they can have. We want every child to love, laugh and learn. We aim to provide every child with a full and rich curriculum, matched to their individual needs so that they can reach their full potential.
The children who attend Elm have, or may have difficulty integrating fully into a mainstream school, but will be supported to gradually and carefully access mainstream activities. As every child is unique, the timescale for this will depend upon the individual child.
In Elm we provide a happy, nurturing and safe environment where children are valued and motivated. Elm offers a personalised curriculum that can respond creatively and flexibly to the individual strengths and difficulties of each learner. Our unit offers an autism-friendly and sensory-friendly space with outdoor learning that promotes development and wellbeing for all of its pupils. We want every child to feel valued, safe and secure within their environment.
There will be a maximum of 8 children in Elm, all with an Education, Health and Care Plan, and they will be supported by lead teacher Mr Millen, and our wonderful team of support staff.
We are excited to be providing this provision for the children of Warwickshire with the support of the Local Authority. Elm Curriculum
In Elm we have a 3 year rolling programme. This ensures that pupils receive a rich, broad and varied curriculum during the 3 years that they are with us. This year we are working on Cycle B.
Assessment in Elm
In Elm children are assessed using the EYFS Development Matters and AET Progression Framework.
These assessments are used to identify gaps and next steps which are then used to create the children’s personalised curriculum plans. Plans are individual to each learner.
Abbey CofE Infant school is committed to meeting the needs of all children. To find out about how we support children with SEND, please use the link below. Thank you
